Vault 27, refered to as The Academy Vault (TAV) in Enclave records, is a Vault-Tec vault near the pre-War city of Indianapolis.

Background[]

As part of it's mission statement, this Vault would be deliberately overcrowded. 2000 people were assigned to enter, double the total sustainable amount. It was intended by the Enclave to act as a 'continuity locale' in the event things didn't go as planned for continuity of government. Miraculously, the vault survived after 735 of it's original inhabitants died by smothering to death minutes after the bombs fell. The dwellers, after getting rid of the corpses, had just enough room and supplies to survive. The inhabitants were forbidden from reproducing (The Overseer's family continued itself with specifically chosen dwellers however) until a certain age and only the third generation of the 27 dwellers were permitted to begin bolstering their numbers again regularly. Biodiversity was designated mandatory for 'the sake of genetic integrity', as inbreeding went against 27's Overseer "ethics guidelines".

For the next 200 years, Vault 27 continued its experiment and maintained a diverse and hearty gene pool. However, following the Enclave's defeat in the Captial Wasteland the Vault's role as a continuity point was utilized. The remaining Enclave forces opened Vault 27, collecting both its research data and inhabitants. By the mid-2290's

Despite the sacrifices... the Enclave recently designated Vault 27 to be a notably critical breakthrough of the Societal Presevation Program, and intends on granting it's remaining populace amnesty into the Enclave's Department of the Army paramilitary by the mid-2290's.

VaultComputer

Completely archived advanced training methods and drills of the United States Armed Forces were secretly stored in it's computer systems, and only the Overseer had clearance to access them.
